about

With the passing of my husband's grannie, Frances Chambers, I wanted to write a song for her. She lived through the Dust Bowl and told me a few stories while sitting at her dining room table. She picked cotton in Oklahoma, made soap from hog fat, and talked about how her day worked hard to keep his kids fed.
During February, I read an incredible book called "The Worst Hard Time" by Timothy Egan. This book left many stories swirling in my head like dust devils. While this song isnt an account of one person's journey, it is, it a mix of many I that had read. Tough times challenged the amazing strength of the human spirit. I am in awe of the people of Oklahoma and how they survived during 1932 - 1939.
